Testimonials

Kerri was kind enough to assist me with sewing techniques and patterns before and during my studies of Design and Technology in VCE. In weekly sessions, Kerri's advice and expertise was extremely advantageous. Throughout the process of designing, selecting materials and determining construction methods, Kerri ensured each stage was handled in a way appropriate to my skill level. Specifically, in my final VCE subject, Kerri's support saw my idea of an 'architecture inspired gown' transform from paper to real life. I was continuously provided with explanations, possibilities and demonstrations of methods I could replicate. Ultimately, Kerri's hands-on approach meant I could learn by doing and understand even which smaller details and changes made a difference to the quality of my work. Not only is Kerri an excellent teacher but also her warm and approachable personality guaranteed our sessions were a relaxing and enjoyable way for me to spend my time.

Rose - VCE Fashion Student, 2012

I have never been able to draw, which is a real restriction on bringing my sewing ideas to life. In just a few lessons, Kerri has taught me the basics of fashion illustration so that my ideas can finally be realised (or discarded!). More than that, I feel pleased with myself at having learnt a new skill. It has also been a great pleasure to learn in an environment that is both relaxed and inspired. Thanks Kerri.

Sarita - Pattern Making Student, 2014

I recently completed 2 sessions of sewing classes at Illustrious Art with Kerri Mazzocco. My goal for taking the class was to reach a level of skill to operate the sewing machine and make actual clothing from patterns. The first class I received a class booklet and sewing kit/ notions. We covered basic sewing machine operation (Bernina) and stitches to include button holes and later some overlocking on another machine. Within 2 classes I was comfortable operating the sewing machine specifically loading the bobbin and changing out thread. With guidance I learned how to create a simple shirt from a pattern at the close of first term. Next term I worked on a pair of shorts partially of my own design. My machine skills and pattern work improved as well as my speed. I feel that I attained my goals for the class because Kerri effectively explained sewing concepts and presented the weekly exercises at a beginner level that I could undertake. Kerri also has a wealth of practical industry experience that is beneficial for those who are creative and possibly want to explore their own design projects in class. I would definitely take more classes from Kerri in the future.
